Keeping active and eating well - coronavirus
It is really important for your mental and physical wellbeing to keep active and eat well. We know that extra weight causes fat to build up around vital organs, making it harder for the body to fight against diseases like cancer, heart disease and now COVID-19.
Because of this, the government has launched its Better Health campaign, with lots of resources to kick start your health and help you lose weight.
Lockdown restrictions are easing and as of 25th July 2020, sports facilities and venues, including such as indoor gyms, fitness and dance studios, indoor swimming pools and indoor water parks, can open.
In addition, there are lots of ways to keep active safely indoors, and there are lots of resources online which are free to use. You can also spend unlimited time outdoors to exercise with your household, or in groups of up to six people from outside your household or within your support 'bubble.' The risk of the coronavirus being passed on to others outdoors is considered to be low as long as people maintain social distancing.

Staying active while at home
Sport England has information on how to stay active while you are at home, including the following:
- Exercising at home
- If you’re older
- Online home workouts
- Other gym workouts
- With the kids
- Getting outdoors
There is also a huge range of online workouts which you can find doing a simple search on Google or Youtube, for varying lengths, activity types and abilities. For example, Yoga with Adriene is a popular yoga channel which offers over 500 free yoga videos which you can do at home.
British Wheelpower have also produced adaptive yoga videos for wheelchair users.

Staying active locally
Getting outdoors and into nature can be really beneficial for your physical and mental wellbeing.

Being active with children
- British Cycling and HSBC have put together a Youtube playlist of short videos on helping children learn how to ride a bike.
- British Judo have published a collection of judo-related activities, games and tasks for children on the British Judo website.
- The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have pulled together 12 fun activities and exercises that parents and children can play at home, to hone their tennis skills while getting crucial exercise.
