Health checks

NHS Health Checks are a national scheme to provide health check-ups to adults aged 40-74 years to help prevent type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke and dementia.

If you are aged between 40 and 74 years and have not already been diagnosed with heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease or stroke, you will receive an invitation to have an NHS Health Check every 5 years.

Even if you are feeling well, it's worth having your NHS Health Check now. It will help you to take further action to reduce your risk of developing these health problems in the future.

Your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and kidney disease increases with age but there are certain things that will put you at even greater risk, such as:

Being overweight
Lack of exercise
High blood pressure
High cholesterol

NHS Health Check professionals can work with you to address these risk factors and improve your chances of living a healthier life.

If you are eligible for an NHS Health Check your general practitioner (GP) will send you an invitation letter. You can then book an appointment at your GP Practice or any of the following Pharmacy Health Check locations offering this service.
