With so much information about food, good and bad, available to us through social media and the internet these days, it’s hard to know what to eat and why.

Understanding how certain foods affect your body and mind is important and can help choices about what to have for dinner, or whether to have a snack, much easier.

Free weight management lifestyle services through Swindon Borough Council

Adults- 12 week adult weight management programme via GP referral, free of charge, subject to meeting all the following criteria: 

  • Swindon Borough Council resident and
  • aged 16 years and over and
  • have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or greater and
  • are ready to tackle your weight and
  • are eligible for free prescriptions

Clients can currently choose from Slimming World or Weight Watchers programmes.

Children and their parents or carers

We are passionate about supporting children and families to be healthy. We’re helping families to lead healthy lifestyles through a free, fun, 10-week Healthy Families programme to make a big difference to their lives. The programme includes healthy eating tips for kids and team games to get the whole family active. The programme runs every school term at the Oasis Leisure Centre and follow on support is offered to families to build and maintain healthy habits.

NHS choices website provides advice on common health conditions.  There are thousands of freely available articles, videos, tools and apps to help you make the best choices about your health and wellbeing.

You can find out more about support and social care services if you or someone you know needs help with day-to-day living because of illness or disability.

The NHS website also publishes daily analysis of the health-related news stories hitting the headlines.
