Children’s Social Care Occupational Therapy
The children’s Social Care Occupational Therapists are part of the Paediatric Therapy Team.
We mainly see children and young people in their own homes. We can provide equipment and arrange adaptations to make daily living activities easier or safer. We can help with things like access into the house, getting around your home, accessing a bath or shower, accessing the toilet, and specialist seating. If your home is not able to be adapted then we will help to support you to find a more suitable property.
We also work with children and young people who receive short breaks through the council’s Home and Away scheme.
Who do we see?
We work with children and young people:
- who are under the age of 18 years old
- have a Swindon postcode
- have a permanent and substantial disability
Who can refer?
Referrals are accepted from
- any professional working with the child or young person
- a person who is the main carer for the child or young person
The Social Care Occupational Therapist will usually arrange to see you at home. The first visit will be used to meet you and your family and to collect information for an initial assessment. We will work with you and your family to identify a list of areas that you need help with. This first visit may take up to an hour.
Further visits may include setting up & adjusting equipment, measuring for adaptations, liaising with surveyors. We might ask to carry out some of these visits with other professionals or our Occupational Therapy Assistant.
If you need to change or cancel an appointment please give us as much notice as possible. Please call the paediatric therapy department on 01793 464246. There is an answerphone for out of hours calls. Please leave your child’s name, contact telephone number and details of the appointment you need to change. This will enable us to have your information ready when we return your call.
