Information, advice and advocacy for children and young people with SEND
The Children and Families Act 2014 requires every local area to have an impartial information, advice and support (IAS) service in place.
Information, advice and support
In Swindon, a number of organisations have come together to provide this service, including:
The IAS will provide different levels of help, from information and signposting through to active support.
There may be occasions where parents and children (16+) disagree. However, we can still provide support to both the young person and his or her parents. We endeavour to work with the parents and young person in a way that best meets individual circumstances, whether that is through mediation or one-to-one support.
The views, opinions, ideas and suggestions of parents, carers, young people and children are of prime importance. Pivotal to Swindon’s SEND Local Offer is the commitment to advocate for children, young people and their families in providing the most appropriate tailored support for them.
Citizens Advice Swindon
Swindon Advocacy Movement (SAM) is a small local charity. We provide a number of advocacy services independent of the local authority, health, education or social care. We work with Swindon people who have care and support needs including autism, mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, eating disorders, dementia.
