Citizens Advice is a well-known national provider of independent advice. You can find the Swindon branch of Citizens Advice in the Swindon Advice and Support Centre (SAASC) which is located in Sanford House, Sanford Street Swindon, SN1 1HE and also in Pinehurst Community Centre which can be found in The Circle, Pinetrees, Swindon SN2 1QR. They provide advice to all residents irrespective of their situation or financial resources.
The MoneyHelper service brings together the support and services of three government-backed financial guidance providers: Money Advice Service, The Pensions Advisory Service and Pension Wise, for people who may want advice or support on money matters. The information on this site is regularly updated and provides guidance on a large range of subjects such as pensions, benefits, debt issues, savings, insurance budgeting and managing money.
Society of Later Life Advisers
Accredited financial advisers can be found on the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA) website. SOLLA was set up by the financial industry specifically to regulate financial advisers. Only those who can demonstrate an appropriate knowledge and expertise to help people with their financial needs are registered. The website is a platform for people to find an accredited independent financial adviser in their locality. SOLLA operates a code of practice and all advisers registered with them must adhere to this code of practice.
Age Uk is a charity dedicated to supporting people in later life. Their website is full of information on how to maintain independence and what to do if you need help. It has guidance on what you may be entitled to and useful factsheets on paying for care. A free national Age Uk advice line (0800 678 1602) is available 365 days a year or, you can visit one of the local centres to talk to someone in person.
