Urgent Care Centre
The Urgent Care Centre can be accessed directly, if you feel your condition is such that you cannot wait for an appointment to see your own GP. However, If you consider your condition to be a medical emergency, you must visit the hospital’s Emergency Department where you will be assessed as quickly as possible.
Examples suitable for treatment at the Urgent Care Centre include:
Shortness of breath
- Hot swollen painful leg-cellulitis and DVT
- Being unable to pass urine -male acute retention of urine
- Abdominal pain
- Pregnant and bleeding
- Children with croup
If you are not an emergency case, you will be redirected to the Urgent Care Centre (on the same site as the hospital), where you will get the appropriate treatment or advice for your condition.

If you do not feel you need to visit the Urgent Care Centre but do need to speak to a GP, our out of hours GP service is also based at the Urgent Care Centre.

The GP may be able to help you over the phone, or may direct you to a service which can help you such as a pharmacy, arrange for you to attend the Urgent Care Centre to see a GP. If you are unable to travel to the Urgent Care Centre because of a medical condition, the Out Of Hours service arrange for a GP to visit you at home.
